The aim of this workshop is for you to understand the technique of Reverse Appliqué. You will make a sample which can be enhanced by embroidery stitched outlines or beads. Reverse appliqué can be applied to bags, hats and clothing.
Reverse appliqué was traditionally made by the Cuna Indians of Panama who made items of closely woven brightly coloured cotton. Reverse appliqué is a technique where shapes are cut out of layers of fabric instead of being built up. Two or more fabric layers are cut into to reveal layers of different colours and often contrasting materials such as silk, velvet, metallics or felt.
